What Is Rhinitis?
There probably isn’t a single person in the world who has not caught a cold with a runny and stuffy nose. Rhinitis is a very common disease. In this condition, there is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose, which leads to symptoms such as sneezing, runny and stuffy nose etc. It is usually caused due to seasonal allergies or common cold.
Usually when a person has had rhinitis for less than 6 weeks, it is known as acute rhinitis. If it persists longer than that, it assumes the form of chronic rhinitis. Acute rhinitis is usually due to a viral infection whereas chronic rhinitis is usually due to allergy (allergic rhinitis).
The condition is broadly classified into four different types:
- Allergic rhinitis
- Infectious rhinitis
- Non-allergic rhinitis
- Mixed rhinitis
