5 Most Common Causes of Anaemia

Anaemia is a condition caused by the lack of healthy red blood cells in the body that carry oxygen to the tissues. The doctors say that people with anaemia can have low hemoglobin and frequently feel weak. Different issues cause different types of anaemia. The severity and mildness depend on what kind of anaemia a person is going through. In a lot of cases, the causes of anaemia are greater, which is also a sign of serious illness.

4. Iron Deficiency Anaemia

Iron deficiency anaemia is one of the most common types of anaemia, which is caused because of the lack of healthy red blood cells that carry oxygen to the tissues in the body. As the name implies in the situation, iron deficiency anaemia is caused because of insufficient iron in the body. Without iron, the body cannot produce the needed substance in the red blood cells for them to carry oxygen.

5. Thalassemia

Thalassemia

It is a condition caused due to less hemoglobin in the body. Hemoglobin helps in carrying oxygen, and when that doesn't happen, thalassemia can occur.

List of Anaemia Causes

Anaemia is a condition that is either present since birth or can occur over time. It happens when the blood doesn't have enough red blood cells which carry oxygen. Anaemia can be severe or mild, but it depends on the causes. Here are some some major causes of anaemia:

  • When the body doesn't make enough red blood cells
  • When there is excessive bleeding because that can make you lose red blood cells quickly
  • When the body starts to destroy red blood cells
  • When there is a family history
  • Menstruation or pregnancy

What do the Red Blood cells do?

Red blood cells

The body makes three types of blood cells: white blood cells, which help fight against infections; red blood cells, which carry oxygen from the lung to the rest of the body; and platelets which help with blood clots. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin in it which gives the red color to the blood. Hemoglobin helps in carrying oxygen from the lungs to all the body parts and carbon dioxide from all the body parts to the lungs to exhale it.

Red blood cells are produced almost regularly in the bone marrow because it is needed in the body. When the production of red blood cells stops, then it can cause hindrance to the overall flow in the body.

List of Anaemia Treatments

There are different treatments for anaemia, and that depends on the cause:

3. Aplastic Anaemia

Aplastic anaemia

In order to treat aplastic anaemia, transfusions are required to boost the levels of red blood cells. Red blood cells help in carrying oxygen, which is why a transplant is needed in order to make healthy blood cells.

4. Sickle Cell Anaemia

Various treatments are available for sickle cell anaemia, including pain relievers and oral fluids to reduce pain or prevent any further complications. Sometimes the doctors also suggest getting a blood transfusion done and taking antibiotics in order to treat the condition.
