Back pain is one of the most common reasons among the adults to miss work and seek medical attention. About 60-80% of individuals have encountered low back pain at least once in their lifetime.1

Back pain is a symptom, not a disease, and may arise due to various reasons such as injuries, wrong postures, and certain medical conditions. Sedentary lifestyle, stressful work environment, depression, anxiety, obesity, lack of balanced nutrition, smoking, and strenuous physical exercises all contribute to back pain. Some of the medical conditions which can cause back pain include- ruptured discs, spinal arthritis, skeletal irregularities, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, spondylitis.2

Backpain can be debilitating and can seriously impair one’s ability to perform day-to-day activities. In most people, low back pain can extend to buttocks as well as the legs. The pain usually does not disappear on its own; delaying treatment may lead to additional problems such as disability related to nerve damage, weight gain (due to physical inactivity), insomnia, depression and many other illnesses.
