Joint Pain and Pain Management

Arthritis – A primary cause

Arthritis is the most common cause of joint pain and it mainly occurs in two forms.

Osteoarthritis (OA)

is most common in adults aged 40 and above. It tends to affect commonly used joints like the wrists, hands, hips and knees, and is caused by the breaking down of the cartilage that serves as a cushion between the bones of the joint.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

generally affects women more than it does men. It can deform and debilitate the joints over time, causing pain, inflammation, and fluid build-up in the joints as the body’s immune system attacks the membrane lining the joints.

Other causes of joint pain

Ayurvedic approach to treating joint pain

Ayurveda recommends a holistic approach to treatment which comprises diet and lifestyle changes, herbal medicines and therapies that address degenerative joint conditions. Ayurvedic physicians can help choose ideal combinations of medicines depending on the particular patient
