Tongue scraping, known as Jihva Nirlekhana in Ayurveda, is an ancient practice to remove the ama (toxins) from the tongue. Consumption of food and beverages leads to the deposition of harmful coating on the tongue in the form of a thin white layer, which, if not removed, could hamper oral health. Tongue scraping helps remove this coating, reduces undesirable bacteria in the mouth, eliminates halitosis or bad breath and improves taste sensation.
